2012 Seniors Housing & Care Journal: Functional Independence & Satisfaction with Assisted Living

Providers of assisted living (AL) serve residents by balancing their need for support and their desire for independence. It is important for AL providers to understand how residents’ functional independence influences their overall satisfaction. An analysis of Press Ganey and Associates’ Assisted Living Survey found that while satisfaction with caregivers and activities, as well as self-related health, were positively associated with overall satisfaction, independence with IADL was surprisingly associated with lower overall satisfaction.
