The last two decades have seen a change in nursing home care toward an emphasis on resident autonomy and dignity, as well as increase social interaction between residents, staff, and residents’ families. This article presents a review of how the physical design of nursing homes has changed accordingly, moving away from hospital-styled design toward more home-like environments.
